first read: as a kid, my mom loves DWJ and owns lots of her books

I read this book from my personal library, my mom bought the 2 book volume for me and it was $3.48 at our used bookstore

This is the first Chrestomanci book and while it's not a Magical Book like the sequel is, it's my second favorite Chrestomanci. I really like Cat and the way he is always oblivious and a bit confused. This is my first time reading the books as an adult and it's funny to notice how much I looked like Gwendolen (except I was short, not tall). My mom called Gwendolen a straw dog when I was a kid and dawg she was the strawest dog I cannot believe what a fun evil child villain DWJ wrote. Have been noting that DWJ loves to describe people as grotesquely fat. HATE that the cover says "Mad about Harry? Try Diana." Because Harry's the fucking titular character and Diana is the author wtf are they on about????
