The 40 Year Old Virgin

first watched: while housesitting over christmas break in college

favorite line: is this the 6 million dollar man's boss ?

When I was a teenager I was really averse to "boy comedies" because I thought they would be really edgy and gross so I've seen most of judd apatow's movies for the first time in the past few years. The 40 year old virgin is really sweet and a solid Movie, but I like it because the non plot significant scenes are so goddamn funny. Paul Rudd being hyper bitter about a girl he dated for 6 months 3 years ago is so real and when Seth Rogen goes "I'm sorry I didnt know any of that!!!" at speed dating after calling her a bitch I'm howling. The sex jokes are tastefully done (always has to be funnier than it is crass) and I always like that an apatow movie is sort of about the main plot but mostly about how fun it is to have friends. Solid opening boner joke which is not an easy feat and the slapstick elements are so true to how boys hang out. I love kat dennings in everything and she's so funny bitching about wanting to have sex with her boyfriend (real). Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd were so funny that they define the movie in my mind and I can sort of remember the plot (steve carrell hasn't had sex and his coworkers are funny as fuck). The costumes are awesome and the characters feel like real people who are always happening to have the funniest day of their lives (seth rogen ripping a bong on the phone while writing his novel at a manual typewriter). Definitely a boy comedy but it is a credit to the genre and has such a good ethos on sex and virginity and friendship. I would consider you boring if you listed this your all time favorite movie but you'd be a boring sweetheart with good taste.

i LOVE the age of aquarius wedding sex dance and musical number I think it's so ridiculous and fun and it's so much better than ending the movie with a sex scene.
